Pastor Karen Buck is a graduate of Texas A&M University (whoop!)
- Class of '91 -with a degree in Education Curriculum and Instruction -
Elementary Education.
Pastor Karen received her M.Div at Eden Theological Seminary in
St. Louis, MO in 1995 and was ordained in October of 1995 as a
Pastor and Teacher in the United Church of Christ.
Pastor Karen grew up in the United Church of Christ. She attended
church camp every summer and was active in United Campus Ministry
while in college. (UCM was comprised of UCC, Disciple of Christ, and Presbyterian students.) After college, Pastor Karen discerned a call to ministry.
Pastor Karen has 4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education (3 as a resident at Scott & White in Temple; 1 as an extended at Covenant in Lubbock).
During CPE, Pastor Karen discerned a call to Intentional Interim Ministry. She completed training with the Interim Ministry Network and has served as an intentional interim pastor at:

Interim Associate Pastor at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham;

St. John's Lutheran in Waller before coming to Zion Lutheran in the Heights
After serving in the ELCA for a decade, Pastor Karen discerned that it was time to make her home there. She has recently moved her ordination standing from the UCC to the ELCA. Zion Lutheran in the Heights will be her first "official" called ministry placement in the ELCA as an Intentional Interim.
Pastor Karen has 2 sons - RC who is a Freshman at Texas A&M (gig 'em)...majoring in Agri-Business and Jonathan is in 6th grade in Brenham...who is looking forward to pre-algebra and playing football in Junior High. Jonathan is also active in 4H...which means that I, she too, is active doing 4H things - Soil Judging, Beef Quiz Bowls, and raising rabbits to show in the Washington County Fair.
Pastor Karen's hobbies include gardening and yard work. She also loves being in the kitchen - baking, cooking, canning...tasting! She enjoy mysteries - reading them as well as watching them on TV. She has 15 chickens (only 4 of them actually lay right now) and one blind duck who keeps them in line. (He's raised them all.)
She and her family live in a house built by her grandparents in 1931 out in Burton (population 300).
